Serious assault incident, Cairns CBD:  A 60-year-old Cairns man has been charged following an incident on the Cairns Esplanade yesterday afternoon.

Ambulance officers had been called to an area of parkland off Pier Point Road just after 3pm where they located an unconscious male.

The man was assisted to a park bench and officers commenced health checks, at which point the man allegedly abused a female officer and spat on her male colleague. 

Police attended and the man was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with serious assault of a public officer and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.  

Stealing charge, Cairns: An 18-year-old Westcourt man was charged yesterday following investigations into a stealing incident at the Gold Coast last month.

It will be alleged that the man stole a sum of cash from a Benowa residence sometime during May.  The victim was known to him.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers spoke with the man yesterday and he was subsequently charged with one count of stealing.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 4. 

Drug and alcohol charges in restricted zone, Kowanyama: A 27-year-old Tolga man is scheduled to appear in the Kowanyama Magistrates Court on July 13, charged with one count each of possessing a dangerous drug and prohibition of possession of liquor in a restricted area.

Police will allege the a vehicle driven by another was intercepted in Kowanyama Street at about 2.15am Saturday and the man was found in possession of a quantity of spirits and cannabis.
